چکیده

In the analysis of variable stars, the problem of sampling is central. This article focusses on the determination of the Nyquist frequency. It is well deened in the case of regular sampling. However, the time series of variable stars observations are generally unevenly sampled. Fourier analysis using the spectral window furnishes some clues about the equivalent Nyquist frequency in the irregular case. Often it is pushed very high, and thus very short periods can be detected. A speciic example is shown, drawn from MACHO databases.

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I

We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...

LINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS

The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...

On Convergence Rate of Second-Order Sliding Mode Control Algorithms

Transient processes in the systems controlled by second-order sliding mode (SOSM) algorithms are analyzed in the frequency domain. A methodology of the frequency-domain analysis of transient processes that feature a decaying oscillation of variable frequency is developed. A simple criterion of the existence of finite-time convergence is proposed. It is shown that the convergence rate in a syste...

Phased Array-Based Sub-Nyquist Sampling for Joint Wideband Spectrum Sensing and Direction-of-Arrival Estimation

In this paper, we study the problem of joint wideband spectrum sensing and direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimation in a sub-Nyquist sampling framework. Specifically, considering a scenario where a few uncorrelated narrowband signals spread over a wide (say, several GHz) frequency band, our objective is to estimate the carrier frequencies and the DoAs associated with the narrowband sources, as wel...

Distribution-Free, Variable Resolution Depth Estimation with Composite Uncertainty

Recent algorithms for processing hydrographic data have treated the problem of achievable resolution by constructing grids of fixed resolution, a composite grid of variable resolution, recursive sub-division in a quad-tree, or by relying on a comprehensive TIN of the original points. These algorithms all impose some artificial structure on the data to allow for efficient computation, however, w...
